Federal election- not just a democracy sausage
On 10 February 2025 Zonta Australia joined up with Zonta Says Now’s Think Tank program to consider issues that Zontians feel are important to advocate to government as the Federal Election looms. There was a poll of the online attendees to the webinar with the top four priorities: Duty of Care for Future generations; stopping gender-based violence; economic equality and security; and housing and homelessness. Some of the key points raised during the Think Tank better connection between gender-based violence and climate change; taking coordinated action to advocate to all elected representatives and to engage with Z Club members to get the youth voice.
16 Days of Activism news story
The Zonta Australia Committee has had a report back from Zonta clubs around Australia on their activities during 16 Days of Activism in 2024.
The good news is that 100 per cent of the 103 clubs across the country took part in this initiative which raises awareness about gender-based violence. A UN Women led initiative, 16 Days of Activism was an opportunity to revitalise commitments, call for accountability and action from decision-makers. In 2024 it was also a chance to raise the profile of the 30th anniversary of the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action in 2025 – a visionary blueprint for achieving gender equality and women’s and girls’ rights everywhere.
